Mr. Walter Turtschak
North Utica - Mr. Walter Turtschak, 87, of 810 Deerfield Dr. East, Noth Utica, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2005, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born August 23, 1917 in Odessa, Ukraine, the son of the late John and Mary Polnetske Turtschak, and attended schools there. On May 23, 1945, Mr. Turtschak married Olga Kolowa in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Turtschak came to this country in 1957.
Prior to his retirement in 1974, he worked in the maintenance and assembly department of G&I Homes, Inc., Schuyler, for 25 years. Mr. Turtschak also worked in Belgium as a coal miner and in France in agriculture. He was a member of Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Utica, and a member and altar server of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Herkimer.
Mr. Turtschak is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Olga; and family members in the Ukraine.
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Bleecker St., Utica, with Rev. Fr. Mykola Krywonos, Pastor, officiating. Spring internment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer. Pannachida will be held 4 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
