Mr. Walter J. "Tootsie" Alexander
Herkimer - Mr. Walter J. "Tootsie" Alexander, 78, of 314 King St passed away Sunday, November 21, 2004 in Valley Health Services.
He was born in Herkimer on October 24, 1926, the son of the late Alex and Rose Alexander. He attended Herkimer schools and garduated from Herkimer High School with the Class of 1944. Walter served with the US Navy during WWII in the Atlantic Theater as as Sonar Man and was Honoarably Discharged on July 12, 1946.
Mr. Alexander was a Machinist for Chicago Pnuematic, Utica for many years until his retirement in 1987. He was a Communicant of Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church and served as an Usher for many years and a member of the American Legion Post #38, V.F.W Post #4915 & the International Association Of Machinists & Aerospace Workers.
Walter is survived by one sister, Sadie Alexander of Herkimer; one sister in law, Mary Alexander of E. Herkimer; his nephews, James Alexander of Syracuse and John & his wife, Diane Alexander of Elmira; his great nephews and great nieces, Robbie Alexander, Alex Alexander, Aaron Alexander, Carrie & her husband, Peter Robie and Christin & her husband, James Hamilton; one great great nephew, Ethan Hamilton and several cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ben Alexander In 1991 and Leo Alexander In 1996
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 11:00 AM in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor. Interment will be in St. Casimer Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling Hours will be Tuesday from 4-7. at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the VFW will meet Tuesday evening at 5:00 and the American Legion at 6:30 at the funeral home for services.
