Frankfort - Mrs. Vita T. Palumbo, 88, of 508 Palmer St., passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Vita was born in Herkimer on March 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Buttiglione Tangorra and she attended Herkimer schools, graduating from Herkimer High School with the class of 1940. She was married to Joseph C. Palumbo on June 2, 1943 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Joseph passed away on May 18, 2006. Vita worked as a solderer for GE, Utica for many years. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and The Young at Heart Senior Citizens. Vita is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Joseph Palumbo and his wife, Joann of Utica, Frank Palumbo and his wife, Jill of Frankfort and Richard Palumbo and his wife, JoAnn of Green Island; her five grandchildren and their spouses Gina and her husband, Steve Pearce, Joseph Palumbo and his wife, Jami, Christina and her husband, Jerry Sangiacomo, Richard Palumbo, Matthew Palumbo and his wife, Brooke; eleven great grandchildren, Joey, Catherine Vita, Gianna, Jared, Kendall, Jackson, Luca, Sienna, Brayden and Blake; six sisters and three brothers in law, Bella Aiello, Lucy Marollo, Rose Maida, Janet and Bill Palmieri, Palma and David Calenzo, all of Herkimer and Kathy and Frank Baretta of Ilion; three brothers and two sisters in law, Frank Tangorra of Herkimer, Phillip and Liz Tangorra of Frankfort and Michael and Joan Tangorra of OH; her in laws, Theresa Tangorra, Anita Tangorra, Harriett Tangorra, Paul Zito, Frank and Terry Palumbo, James and Mary Fran Palumbo and Phyllis and Michael Fiorentino and her aunt, Bella Bono and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan Patrick Palumbo, granddaughter, Kristin Palumbo Longo; three brothers, Cosimo Tangorra, Alex Tangorra and Richard Tangorra and one sister, Elaine Zito. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 PM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, and at 2:00 PM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8pm at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm at the funeral home for services. Vita's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Mohawk Valley Healthcare 2nd floor, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center 2D unit and to Kim Maneen for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing.
