Ilion - Mr. Vernon L. Wafful, 95, formerly of W. Clark St. passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 in Valley Health Services with his family by his side.
He was born in Schuyler on October 22, 1917, the son of the late George and Harriet Coye Wafful and he attended Frankfort schools. He served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on October 30, 1945 with the rank of Corporal. He was married to Josephine Sgroi on February 26, 1949 in St. Mary's Church. Josephine passed away on July 21, 2002. Vernon was an Assembler for Univac, Ilion & Utica Plants until his retirement in 1977. He was later employed as a Night Watchman for HM Quackenbush for many years. He was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion and a life member of the American Legion Post, Ilion and V.F.W Post #502, Frankfort - Ilion.
Vernon is survived by a special niece and nephew, Mary and John Pedone of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Stanley Wafful and two sisters, Martha Guerino and Reba Bennett.
His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort with the Rev. Leo Potvin, officiating. Spring interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
