Herkimer - Mrs. Sonia "Sophie" Zeman, 98, formerly of Protection Ave., passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Valley Health Services with her family by her side.
She was born in Eura, Poland on June 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Mykula Radominski. She came to this country in 1930 and has resided in Herkimer ever since. She was married to Paul Zeman on September 9, 1939 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Paul passed away on May 2, 1979.
Sophie was a Seamstress for Burtels Dress Factory, Mohawk for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sisterhood and Church Choir, the I.L.G.W.U. and the V.F.W Post #4915 Ladies Auxiliary in Herkimer.
Sophie is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Paul Robert Zeman and his wife, Beverly of Nashua, NH and Richard Thomas Zeman and his wife, Sandra of E. Herkimer; her four beloved grandchildren, Robert Scott Zeman and Michelle and John Cummins, all of Nashua, NH, Jennifer and her husband, Stephen Hager of Philadelphia, PA. and Stacey Zeman of Ithaca; one great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Zeman of VA; her sister-in-law, Lucy Radominski of Dayton, OH and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Radominski.
Her funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 12:00 pm from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, and at 12:30 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church where her funeral will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Ivan Semko. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be Friday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home with Father Semko officiating.
