Sidney J. DeRollo

Frankfort - Sidney J. DeRollo, 101, passed away at home on Friday, August 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Frankfort on October 27, 1924, the son of the late Rocco and Bridget Romano DeRollo. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School with the class of 1942.

Answering the call to service during one of the most defining moments in our nation's history, Sidney enlisted in the United States Army on February 22, 1943. He served in North Africa, France, Italy and England during World War II. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Sidney received an Honorable Discharge from the military service on January 27, 1946. His service reflected the courage and sense of duty that would remain part of his character throughout his long life. Before returning home to the United States, he remained in England for a short while to attend Shrivenham University. He studied Pre-Medicine at Columbia University and later graduated Mt. St. Mary's College, Maryland. Sidney had a 30-year career as an Industrial Engineer for General Electric's Aerospace & Defense Division, Utica, NY, and retired in 1985.

Perhaps his greatest legacy began when he married his high school sweetheart, Lena Maneen, on December 27, 1947, in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. They celebrated 75 years of marriage on December 27, 2022. They built a family and life together that became the foundation for generations to come. They had eight beloved children, Ronald DeRollo (Terri DeRollo), Sydney Solomon (Mark Solomon), Robert DeRollo, Rocco DeRollo (Mary DeRollo), James DeRollo (Diane (DeRollo), Susan DiSano, Bridget DeRollo, and Michael DeRollo (Dorri DeRollo), 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and severa; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Robert DeRollo on April 13, 1986 and his sister, Marie DeRollo Russitano.

Throughout their lifetime, they dedicated their lives to their community and demonstrated an unwavering love for family and family traditions. They faithfully attended Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church every Sunday. For years, Sidney was an instructor of Religious Education, a lectern of the mass, and a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. He also served as the President of the Board of Education for the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District.

Sidney was a pillar whose strength and determination carried him through more than a century of changing times. Caring for him was an honor, a final gift to a father who had given his family a lifetime of love, sacrifice and devotion. His life was long. His love was lasting. His legacy will live on forever. Rest peacefully. You gave us a lifetime. We will carry you with us for all of ours.

His funeral will be held, Thursday morning, August 13, 2026 at 9:45 from the V.J.Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 10:30 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev Paul Catena. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the V.J.Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff for their compassionate care and support, and to the VA for their unwavering support throughout his final days. We are deeply grateful for all they did for him and our family.
