Mr. Robert N. Sully Sullivan
Salcha, Alaska - Robert N. Sullivan (Sully) of Salcha, Alaska took his last flight on August Eleventh, and then on August 20, 2007 passed away, flying toward the endless horizon.
Sully was at heart a military man and a patriot, ever interested in the action and the battle. He took this attitude into his personal battle with cancer. For the past 25 years Sully was able to out-strategize cancer, and to live with a positive outlook and a gift for enjoying life.
Sully was born in Paragould, Arkansas on September 25, 1946. He grew up in Greenville, Mississippi along the river, one of seven adventurous siblings. In 1963 Sully entered the Air Force and proudly served his country for the next twenty years. He served in California, Goose Bay, Canada, New Hampshire, Korea and then the place that captured his heart: Alaska. It was here that Sully and his wife Denise made their home, and where he established his own business, Auto Tech in North Pole.
Sully met his wife, Denise Lowell of Herkimer, N.Y. when they were both en route to assignments in Korea. There were married in 1981, a cherished union that brought years of travel, building, adventure and lots of good Sully stories. During these years Sully pursued his love of flying. He fulfilled his life-long dream by becoming a sport pilot and a certified light sport repairman. Good friends made it possible for him to fly right up to those last days.
Sully was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Walter Sullivan, his father-in-law John Lowell, and his brothers Rudene and Eugene Sullivan.
He leaves behind his loving wife Denise and his mother-in-law Florence Lowell. He is also survived by his three children from a pervious marriage: Anne Marie, Julie, and Robert, Jr. Among his siblings, he is survived by his sisters Joyce and Judy, his brothers Johnny and Larry, and a sister-in-law Shirley. He leaves behind special extended family, Kevin and Marlene Gollegly and their children Kyle and Alisha. There are also many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Sully will long be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his story-telling, and his positive outlook during even difficult times.
His funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 12:00 pm in the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort with the Rev. Eugene Kipper, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
