Rando P. Lupini

Ilion - Mr. Rando P. Lupini, 92, of St. Rt. 51 passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his family by his side after suffering complications from a fall. Born in Trieste, a seaport in Northern Italy on the Adriatic Sea, Venerando was the fourth of five children, born to Giovanni and Maria Lupini on April 19, 1921. The family was hard working, but poor, and, after completing his apprenticeship as an electrician and serving on the crew of the luxury liner, the MS Vulcania for a year, Rando came to live in the United States in August of 1939, at the age of eighteen. Drafted into the US Army in 1942, he served in the European theatre, landing on the beaches of Normandy with the 116th Infantry 29th Division. He credited the prayers of his mother for his safe return to the States. Rando married Catherine Vaskis on June 14, 1946. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters. Rando, later lovingly nicknamed GP for grandfather, greatly enjoyed swimming, sports, social gatherings, history, travel, exercising, puzzles, Rummikub, cards and learning. He loved his native Italian language, opera - especially Puccini, and the arts. Rando retired as an electrical designer from New York City in 1973. In 2001, he moved to Frankfort, New York to be closer to his daughter and her family. Rando was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, a volunteer with the RSVP Program, as well as with the Proctor Munson Williams Institute and the Stanley Theatre. His personal motto, which he impressed upon his children and grandchildren, was: Faith, Family, and Friends. Often he would remark, when detours appeared on his path, "Man proposes, but God disposes." He is survived by his three daughters and their spouses: Linda and Thomas Frank, Laurette and Bobby Hawkins, and Lydia Sexton; his four grandchildren: Ted and Tracie Sexton, Brother Mark Sexton, Michael and Wendy Sexton, and Ann Marie Sexton; and his four great-grandchildren: Sophia and Garrett Sexton and Joy and Dawn Sexton. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 until the time of services. Rando's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his caretakers, Theresa Korol, Camille Fisher, Rebecca Potter, Brenda Abrams, Karen Slocum, Wendy DeLuca, Brittany Bertone, Christine Jackson and to the nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing.
