Frankfort - Mr. Philip Charles "Slugs" Torchia, 93, of 611 Reese Rd. passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. He was born in Frankfort on December 17, 1918, the son of the late Louis and Catherine Trippen Torchia. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. Slugs was a key defensive player for the Frankfort Vets and Falcon football teams and served with the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was Honorably Discharged on August 31, 1945. He was married to Adeline "Lena" Graziano on August 3, 1952 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Lena passed away on April 26, 2011. Phil was at one time employed by Remington Arms, Union Fork and Hoe, and later for Chicago Pneumatic for many years until his retirement in 1986. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. Philip is survived by his son and daughter in law, Louis and Elena Torchia of Abingdon Maryland, (currently deployed in Doha, Qatar); two granddaughters, Whitney and Sofialena; one sister, Agnes DiMaggio of Frankfort; his sister in law, Antoinette Passante of W. Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Torchia and Joseph Torchia and one sister, Florence Caruso. His funeral will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 10:00 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev Anthony Barrett and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, July 2 from 4-8 at V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
