Oreste G. Ferraro

Mr. Oreste "Rusty" Ferraro Herkimer - Mr. Oreste "Rusty" G. Ferraro, 86, of the Folts Home, passed away, December 12, 2005, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born October 13, 1919, in Savona, Italy, the son the late Giuseppe and Patetta Luigia Ferraro and was educated in Italy. On December 22, 1946, he married Teresa M. Jennotte in Savona, Italy. Mrs. Ferraro passed away, November 24, 2002. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a finisher with the former Library Bureau, Herkimer. He was also employed with Standard Desk for 25 years. Rusty, while in Italy, was educated as an architectural engineer. He served in the Italian Army before coming to this country in 1947. Rusty was an avid Hamm Radio Operator for the Military Amateur Radio System and during the Vietnam War assisted many local families with making contact with their loved ones who were serving our country overseas. He was a member of Mt. Zion Ministries and former member of the United Methodist Church of Herkimer. Rusty is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Frank & Patty Ferraro, M.D. of Lewiston, NY and Oreste J. & Lori Ferraro of Herkimer; four grandchildren, Jenny Ferraro and Michele Ferraro, both of Lewiston and Alisa Ferraro and Emily Ferraro, both of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, 1st LT. Joseph Ferraro, U.S. Army on June 5, 1971, who was a graduate of West Point Military Academy, Class of '70. His funeral will be 11:30 AM, Wednesday, in Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington Street, Herkimer, with the Rev. Michael Hughes, Pastor of Mt. Zion Ministries, officiating. Spring Interment will be held in Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Calling hours will be 9:30 to 11:30 AM, Wednesday at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, prior to the service.
