N. Utica- Mrs. Olga Turtschak, 83, of 810 Deerfield Dr East passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in her home.
She was born in the Ukraine on August 23, 1923, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Kolowa. She attended schools there and later attended Medical School in the Ukraine for Nursing. During the German occupation of her hometown, Olga was relocated to Germany in 1942 to work on German farms. She was married to Walter Turtschak on May 23, 1945 in Germany. Following the war, Olga and Walter relocated to France in 1949 and came to the United States in 1956 and settling in Utica. Mr. Turtschak passed away on February 20, 2005. Olga was employed as a Hair Dresser for Town Beauty Salon, Blandina St, Utica for many years until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Utica and a former member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Herkimer and of it's Sisterhood. Olga served as the president of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church Parish for many years.
Olga is survived by one sister, Valentina of Ukraine and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Ukraine.
Her funeral Friday morning at 9:00 am in Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Bleecker St, Utica with the Rev Fr Mykola Krywonos, pastor officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 4-6 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer. The Panahyda service will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 with Fr. Krywonos officiating.
