V.Rev.Fr. Mykola Newmerzyckyj
Herkimer - V. Rev. Fr. Mykola Newmerzyckyj, 81, of 309 Moore Ave passed away Saturday, October 28, 2006 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Luchenky, Ukraine on September 19, 1925, the son of the late Mychail and the late Stefania Newmerzyckyj. He attended schools there and attended seminary in Manheim, Germany. He was married to Maria Maczkewicz on April 30, 1947 in Germany. He was appointed Deacon in 1949 and received his final vows of Ordination on September 12,1957 in New York City. Father served as the Pastor of several Ukrainian Orthodox Churches throughout our country. He served as Pastor of Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Utica; Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Dearborn, MI; SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Utica; Holy Cross Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Utica; St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Pittsburgh, Pa; St. Andrews Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Boston, MA; St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Southfield, MI and his final assignment was as the Pastor of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Herkimer for many years until his retirement in 2000. Father was proud to be a survivor of the man made famine in the Ukraine in 1931 through 1933.
Father is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Newmerzyckyj; his children, Mychail & his wife, Helen Newmerzyckyj of Clifton, NJ, Vera Newmerzyckyj of Herkimer, Mykola & his wife, Oksana Newmerzyckyj of Goodrich, MI; Anna Newmerzyckyj of Herkimer and Wolodymyr Newmerzyckyj, Sr. of Oxford, MA; his grandchildren, Samantha Newmerzyckyj and Wolodymyr Newmerzyckyj Jr. and several cousins.
Father will be received Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moore Ave. Herkimer. Calling Hours will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 and Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moore Ave. Herkimer. Parastas will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the church. On Wednesday, Father will be received at 3:00 in St. Andrews Memorial Church, Southbound Brook, New Jersey. Parastas will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 in St. Andrews Memorial Church with Archbishop Antony officiating. His Divine Liturgy will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 am in St. Andrews Memorial Church with Archbishop Antony, Officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.
His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, Herkimer.
