Utica - Mr. Miguel A. Girona, 61, of 1025 Walnut St entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the V A Hospital in Syracuse.
Miguel was born in San Turce, Puerto Rico on September 25, 1950, the son of the late Nestor and Marianela Roman Girona. He attended schools in Puerto Rico and later in Brooklyn and attended Utica College for Journalism. He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was Honorable Discharged on October 31,1971. He was at one time married to Edna Rosario. Mr. Girona was a Clerk for Butterfield Station Post Office in Utica for many years. He retired after 28 years of service in 2005 and was a member of the APWU. Miguel hosted the Spanish Community Report on WKTV for many years.
Miguel is survived by his life partner, Faith Roberts Robellard of Herkimer; one son & daughter in law, Miguel & Theresa Girona Jr. of Newport News, VA; two daughters & one son in law, Marianela & Eliezer Quiros and Gabriela Girona, all of Utica; one brother, Nestor Girona Jr. of Utica; two sisters & one brother in law, Myriam Saldana and Myra & Emilton Cardona all of FL; his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Girona, Miguel Girona lll, Damiano Girona, Alexis Girona, Esmeralda Quiros, Jasmin Quiros, Natalie Daley and Elaina Jerig of Herkimer as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Miguel's life will be held Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM in the Matt Funeral Service, Inc, 700 Rutger St., Utica. Internment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 at the Matt Funeral Service, Inc.
Miguel's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Syracuse VA Hospital as wel as Kelly Wolfe for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
