Mr. Michael Politylo
Herkimer - Mr. Michael Politylo, 94, of Herkimer passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Albany Medical Center.
He was born in Herkimer on May 30, 1922, the son of the late Mathew and Tekla Hajtko Politylo. He graduated from Herkimer High School and later attended Syracuse University. Michael served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorable Discharged on December 2, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He was married to Anna Rapacz on July 31, 1948 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Anna passed away on November 23, 2011. Michael was an Estimator for Library Bureau, Herkimer until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Michael is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Matveychuk of Newton, MA; two sons and daughters in law, Robert and Beverly Politylo of Amesville, OH and Tom and Paulette Politylo of Millsboro, DE; four grandchildren, Dr. Bethany Politylo and her husband, Michael Akresh, Christopher and his wife, Kari Politylo, Vyacheslav Matveychuk and Anna and her husband, Matthew Culmone; four great-grandchildren, Ariana, Audrey, Nathan and Lauren; two sisters and brother in law, Margaret Pupchek of DE and Jean and Jerry Lyktey of Whitesboro; his lifelong friend, Tom Nelson of Ilion and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Julia Polansky and Mary Rapacz, and his son in law, Wasyl Matveychuk.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Ivan Semko, pastor. Interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 26 from 6-8 PM at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. with Fr. Semko officiating.
