In Loving Memory of Michael Moretti
November 6, 1952 - June 16, 2024

Michael Moretti of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2024, at the age of 71, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Born in Herkimer, New York, Mike was a proud graduate of Herkimer Central High School, Class of 1971. A standout football player for the Magicians, he played defensive tackle wearing No. 77. His strength, speed, and commanding presence earned him the nickname that stayed with him throughout his life, "Mountain Moretti." Although Mike spent most of his adult life in Las Vegas, his heart never strayed far from Herkimer. He treasured the friendships he made there, the values it instilled in him, and the memories of growing up in the Mohawk Valley.

After graduation, Mike worked in manufacturing and construction before leaving the Mohawk Valley in the late 1970s to build a new life in Las Vegas, where he would spend the next 45 years. Driven, determined, and hardworking, he built a respected career as an ironworker, helping construct some of the iconic hotels and casinos that define the Las Vegas Strip.

On November 21, 1980, when a catastrophic fire tore through the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, Mike was working at a nearby construction site. Never one to run from danger, he and his fellow workers rushed to assist first responders, helping move the injured to waiting ambulances. It was a moment that reflected the courage, instinct, and strength that defined him throughout his life.

Mike's dedication to his craft and to his union earned him the respect of those who worked alongside him. In the years before his retirement, he served as Business Agent for Ironworkers Local 416, a position he held with pride and deep commitment. Mike believed in hard work, loyalty, and the brotherhood of his trade.

Outside of work, Mike embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, crafting jewelry for family and friends, weightlifting, and competing in amateur martial arts. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including bingo nights at Arizona Charlie's Casino, and treasured the time he spent with those he loved.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Caroline (Sansevero) Moretti; his wife, Nicole (Bertoli) Moretti; and his beloved companion in later years, Linda Brown. Mike and Linda found one another at just the right time in life and shared many happy and meaningful years together.

He is survived by his son, Michael Moretti III of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister, Carol Ann Casey (Con) of Mentor, Ohio; his brothers, Luke Moretti (Susan) of Grand Island, New York, and Paul Moretti (Alexandra) of Burlington, Massachusetts; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many close friends.

A celebration of Mike's life was held in Las Vegas at the time of his passing. Interment took place on July 10, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer, New York, where he was laid to rest alongside his parents.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., Frankfort, New York.

The Moretti family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Vincent Iocovozzi for his guidance, compassion, and support throughout this difficult journey.
