Mr. Michael F. Lovecchio Ilion - Mr. Michael F. "Cheech" Lovecchio, 93, of 11 Pine St. passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Herkimer on August 20, 1923, the son of the late Francesco and Philomena Armondo Lovecchio and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army Signal Corps during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on February 21, 1946. He was married to Ruth Surinis on August 14, 1954 in St. Anthony's. Ruth passed away on December 1, 1999. Michael was employed as a repairman for Library Bureau, Herkimer until his retirement in 1986 after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a communicant of St. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer and a member of the TR George Post #6, Life Member of Ilion Little League and the IUE AFL-CIO. Michael is survived by one son and his best friend, Michael and his wife, Melissa Lovecchio of Frankfort; one daughter, Dinah and her husband, James Swing of Lockport; two grandsons, Craig and his wife, Kristen Swing and Kristen and her husband, Nate Morabito; four great grandchildren, Sara, Colin, Natalie and Carmelo; one sister: Theresa Marchese of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins He was predeceased by two sisters and brother-in-law, Angela and her husband, Roger Salvagni and Connie Strokoski, and one brother, Nicholas Lovecchio. His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:00 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Quy Vo. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery later this spring. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to CABVI 507 Kent St. Utica, NY 13501 or to CNY Veteran's Outreach Center, 726 Washington Street, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available in the church vestibule. Mike's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his caretakers, Nancy, Cheryl, Debbie and Mike's friends and neighbors for the wonderful care shown to him and helping him stay in his home. The family would also like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for the kindness and compassion shown to him during his stay and passing.
