Ilion - Mr. Michael F. Leonis, "Frankie", 86, of Elm St. passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in his home with his loving daughter Dawn and her husband, Stephen by his side.
Mike was born in Frankfort on August 22, 1926, the son of the late Samuel and Evelyn Price Leonis. He served with the US Navy during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on April 4, 1946. He was married to Marietta L. Slocum on December 21, 1947 in Maryland. Marietta passed away on December 2, 2000.
Michael was a Machine Setter for Remington Arms, Ilion, until his retirement in 1985. Mike's favorite time was at the Turning Stone Casino playing Wild and selling fruits and vegetables with his special friend Jean.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Dawn Cawley and her husband Stephen; one daughter in law , Carolyn Moreau; three brothers and two sisters in law, Sam and Carol Sue Leonis of Ilion, Ron and Peg Leonis of Frankfort and Gary Leonis of Mohawk; two sisters, Eva Tripple of Mohawk and Isabelle Leonis of Catskill; a special son in law, Rick Ulin; two grandsons, Tom and Mike Leonis and many step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marietta; one son, Michael Leonis, Jr. and his stepdaughter Valerie Ulin. He leaves behind his bird, Petie.
His funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Oak View Cemetery in the spring with full Military Honors.
His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J.Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc Frankfort.
