Melvina Maida

Frankfort - Mrs. Melvina "Nina" Maida, 82, of 222 Second Ave passed away Friday, November 21, 2008 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. She was born in Albany on September 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph James and Mabel Ryan Martell and she attended Bennington, Vt. schools. She was married to Savario F. "Cy" Maida on February 22, 1950 in Herkimer. Mr. Maida passed away on August 11, 1988. Nina was employed by Univac and later by Joseph & Pfeiss for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a former member Young At Heart Senior Citizens and a member of the D.A.V. Stars & Strips Chapter 82 Aux. Nina enjoyed reading and knitting. She especially loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren especially taking care of them and listening to their laughter. She looked forward to boating and "bear sightings" in Old Forge. Nina is survived by two sons, Roger Maida and James Maida both of Frankfort; three daughters and two sons in law, Beverly Clark of Rochester, Donna Marie Balio & Anthony Balio of Frankfort and Deborah & David Annatone of West Winfield; her grandchildren, Roger Maida and Russell Maida both of FL, Deborah & her husband, Gary Holler of Albion, Melissa Clark of Rochester, Colette & her husband, Nicholas Fountas of NC, James Maida of Saratoga Springs, Jaclyn Maida and Thomas Maida, both of Frankfort; Cosmo & his wife, Michele Balio of VA, John & his wife, Amy Balio of Frankfort and Joseph Balio all of Frankfort, Gina & her husband, William Gabrielli of Clay, Kristy & her husband, Jason Nole of New Hartford and David Annatone and his friend, Giovana Huamani of West Winfield; twelve great grandchildren, Heather, Julia, Tyler, Nicholas, Angelo, Mikayla, Isabella, Morgan, Anthony, Sophia, Alannah and Ashton; her sister in law, Josephine Dulak of Frankfort; her cousin & special friend, Mary Branck of Frankfort with whom she would share their news and fond memories over a cup of tea and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, James Martell. Her funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:00 am from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 am in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus assisted by Deacon James Bowers. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5-9 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Nina's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to her granddaughter, Jaclyn and her home health aides, Debbie, Betty and Jennifer who assisted her with loving care. Also their thank you extends to Dr Kodsy and the 6th floor nurses and staff at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital for their care and compassion during those difficult weeks.
