Herkimer - Mrs. Mary A. Kowalski, 96, of 210 Stimson St. passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the Folts Home, Herkimer.
Mary was born in Herkimer on October 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Vipsa Pyc. She attended the Country school at Orendorf Corners. She was married to John "Cappy" Kowalski on May 26, 1941 in Herkimer. Mr. Kowalski passed away on June 24, 2000.
Mrs. Kowalski was a Supervisor for Marcy State Hospital until her retirement in 1977. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, a member of their Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart Society, the Village of Herkimer Senior Citizens, the Knights of Columbus Council #579 Auxiliary, the Polish Community Home Auxiliary and the NYS Retirees Association.
Mary is survived by her sister, Ann Osley of Mohawk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Donald Louden on March 10, 1957, her sisters, Wanda Helmer on February 14, 2004 and Frances Gutowski on November 7, 2006, and her brothers, Joseph Pyc on February 2, 1993, Stanley Pyc on May 28, 1974 and John Pyc on March 16, 1990.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 PM. Members of the Herkimer Seniors will meet Friday at 5:30 and the Sacred Heart Society and the Rosary Society will meet Friday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home for services. Mary's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Folts Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing.
