Maria Senyszyn

Herkimer – Mrs. Maria Senyszyn, 92, of 314 Gray Street, passed into eternity to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 9, 2017, with her son by her side.

Maria was born in Miheyevka, Province of Zhitomer, Ukraine, on August 25, 1925.  The daughter of the late Harry Mossichewk and Paraksa Buhichewk, Maria was the youngest of five children - John, Melania, Alex, and Ann. She was the only member of her family to immigrate to America in 1949. Prior to coming to the United States, Maria married Yarolsaw “Jerry” Senyszyn on November 22, 1945, in Mannheim, Germany. The couple celebrated a long and wonderful marriage.

Maria was employed for many years at Allegro Shoe Corporation in Little Falls, NY.  She was also a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Moore Ave. in Herkimer. Maria, more commonly known as Baba to her family, had a wonderful laugh, always offered sound advice, and loved her family and friends.

Maria was predeceased by her late husband, Yarolsaw "Jerry" and her daughter, Mrs. Roma Viel. She is survived by her devoted son, Ihor Senyszyn; son-in-law, Carl Viel and grandchildren, Aileen Viel, and Andrea and Nicholas Curley. Lastly, Maria is survived by her three month old great-grandson, Roman Patrick Curley, whom she joyously loved to hold.

A private ceremony celebrating her life will be held Tuesday morning, December 12, at 11:00 AM, at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. in Herkimer with Rev. Fr. Ivan Semko, officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery following the ceremony.
