Margaret Pupchek, 95, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at her residence at The Summit in Hockessin, Delaware. She was born on June 24, 1929, in Herkimer, New York, to the late Mathew and Tekla Politylo. She was a longtime resident of Little Falls, NY, until she and her husband, William Pupchek, retired to Florida where they lived for more than 20 years. They also lived in Mooresville, North Carolina. Upon William’s passing, Margaret relocated to live independently at The Summit retirement community in Hockessin, Delaware.
Margaret was a graduate of Herkimer High School in Herkimer, NY. Upon graduation, she was employed at the North School in Herkimer as a secretary until her marriage to William. Together they raised four children. Margaret was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother who loved to shop and find a great bargain. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to many places during their life together including NYC, New Bedford, MA, Las Vegas, NV, and more than 20 cruises in Caribbean. Margaret was thrilled to travel to Lviv, Ukraine, before the war where she visited her parents’ birthplaces and met many relatives with whom she continued to FaceTime with up until her death.
Margaret is survived by her children William of Mooresville, NC, Jean Hall (William) of Hockessin, DE, David (Mary Beth) of Baldwinsville, NY, Gregory of Grand Cayman, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jean Lyktey, brother-in-law Jerry Lyktey and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years, she was predeceased by her sisters, Julia Polansky and Mary Rapacz and her brother, Michael Politylo.
A visitation for Margaret will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in East Herkimer, NY at 10-11 AM with funeral service beginning at 11 AM and burial immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Sts. Peter and Paul Church in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
