Joyce Doolen

Joyce Doolen, age 84, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

She was born in Utica on January 16, 1942, a daughter of the late William and Elma (Blum) Heath and graduated from Proctor High School. On May 7, 1960 she married Albert J. Doolen in Zion Lutheran Church, a blessed union of 44 years prior to his passing on August 17, 2004. Joyce was employed at Hamilton College until her retirement.

She is survived by her loving children, Karen (Harley) Seelman, Linda (Michael) Ball, Kathy (Chris) Fulmer, Albert Doolen and John (Beverly) Doolen; her 13 cherished grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; her sisters and her brother, Judy Ballou, Janet Doolen, Jackie (Robert) Florentino, Jennifer (Roger) Wendall and James Heath. Joyce was predeceased by her son, David (Karen) Doolen; her brother, Jeff Heath; her grandson, Guy Seelman and her daughter-in-law, Carol Doolen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday April 18, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 78 Second Street, Ilion. Joyce’s family will greet all visitors following the service.

The Doolen family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., Dr. Molly Schug as well as Wendy Davy for the care and compassion shown during a difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Joyce’s name can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the service.

Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home Inc., Frankfort.
