Josephine M. Widay
Herkimer- Mrs. Josephine M. Widay, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Little Falls Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on July 25, 1928, in Herkimer, the daughter of the late John and Mary Sczerbaniewicz. Josephine graduated from Herkimer High School. On May 29, 1948, she was married to Joseph J. Widay, a blessed union of 59 years until his passing in 2007. Josephine was employed at Univac and ICL until her retirement. She was an active communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. One of Josephine’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite past time was creating beautiful gardens of flowers and vegetables. She was a mentor to all of us in many ways and her wisdom will live on.
She is survived by her children, Patricia, of Ilion, Joseph (Elaine) of Long Lake, and MaryAnn of Cohoes. Josephine was adored by her grandchildren Jessica (Brent) Boscarino and Kyle (Jennifer) Widay, and her great grandchildren, Wynn, Ryder, Brinley, and Penelope. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Joseph (Pearl) Serbaniewicz, Leo (Lorraine) Sczerbaniewicz, Edward (Betsy) Serban, Irene Szatko, and Stella Sczerbaniewicz, and in-laws Jane Widay and Ted Widay, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Josephine was predeceased by her sister, Victoria Shearer and brother, Raymond.
Her funeral will be held Saturday morning 11 am at the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, S. Main St. Herkimer where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy and assisted by Deacan James Bower. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, 203 Second Ave., Frankfort. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Josephine's memory may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Grace and the staff at Little Falls Hospital for all their care and compassion during her stay and passing.
