Ms. Josephine Mezza Ilion - Frankfort - Ms. Josephine Mezza, 87, of 1405 Barringer Rd. formerly of Frankfort, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 in Sitrin Health Care Center with her family by her side. She was born in Frankfort on December 3, 1929, the daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline Purpura Sgroi and she attended Frankfort schools. Josephine was employed as an assembler for Univac in both the Ilion and Utica Plants until her retirement in 1977. She was later employed by ICL, MVGH, Remington Arms Co and lastly for Con Med retiring in 1991. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Columbianna Society, Addolorata Society, St. Francis Di Paolo Society Aux. and life member of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens. Josephine is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Angela and her husband, Joseph Belmont of Ilion; three grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Jennifer Belmont, Michael Belmont and Stephanie Belmont; one sister, Carmella Micciche of Fontana, CA. and several nieces nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Anthony Joseph Mezza in 1967; seven brothers, Joseph Loiacano, George Loiacano, Frank Loiacano, PFC Paul Sgroi US Army KIA WWll, Sam Sgroi, Vito Sgroi, and James Sgroi. Her funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:45 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, May 8 from 4-8 PM at V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens will meet Monday at 4:15 and the Addolorata Society at 4:30 the funeral home for services. Josephine's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Sitrin Health Care Center's Sub Acute Rehab for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her during her stay and passing. They would also like to thank Dr. Brehaut, Dr. Chase and Dr. Pyleman for being so gentle and kind to her.
