Herkimer - Mrs. Josephine Ferrucci, 89, of N. Prospect St. passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 27, 2010 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Utica on April 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Prumo Piscione and she attended Herkimer schools. She was married to Fred J. Ferrucci on June 28, 1947 in St Anthony's Church, Utica. Mr. Ferrucci passed away on October 9, 2009 after a blessed union of 62 years. Josephine loved being a waitress and serving others. She began her career at Chirico's, later Little Joes and lastly for Big Bill's Restaurant, Herkimer until her retirement in 1980. She will be fondly remembered for her homemade sauce, meatballs, escarole soup and her apple pie.
Josephine was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and one son in law, Mary Lu Ferrucci and Rose and Vinny Scalise, all of Ilion; one son, Michael Ferrucci and his companion, Sue Ann Dellerba of Utica, her grandchildren, Angela and her husband, Michael Bourke of VA and Gino Scalise of Ilion; her great grandchildren, Conor and Amelia and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her infant daughter in 1948, five sisters, Sadie, Fannie, Elvie, Mamie and Margaret and five brothers, Tony, Frank, George, John and Ralph.
Her funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:15 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 10:00 in the Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
Josephine's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for the wonderful care shown to her during her stay and passing. They would also like to thank Dr. Kachare for his kind and compassionate care shown to her.
