Herkimer - Mr. Joseph R. Pacini, 87, of 104 N. Washington St. passed away, Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Herkimer on April 13, 1928, the son of the late Anthony and Antoinette Giovanpietro Pacini and he attended Herkimer schools. Joe served with the US Army during World War II during the Occupation of Japan and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant on October 18, 1948. He later was called back to active duty on July 24, 1951 and served with the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged on July 23, 1955. He was married to Margaret Cox Sanders for many years. Margaret passed away on November 8, 1999. Joseph was employed in the construction industry in the states of Nevada, California and Utah for many years and later as a Casino Dealer in Reno, NV. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church.
Joseph is survived by one sister, Palma Ambrosewicz of Herkimer; his sister in law, Mary Pacini of Utica and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Sam Pacini and Dino Pacini and four sisters, Alda Pacini, Mary Sgroi, Yolanda Tripple and Ottavia Maida.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:00 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Quy Vo. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be Friday, December 18 from 4-7 PM in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
