Herkimer - Mr. John Paul Wiegand, 71, of 306 Dorf St. passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born in Herkimer, New York on April 11, 1941, the son of the late John and Stella Wiegand. He attended Herkimer district schools and graduated near the top of his class from Herkimer High School with the class of 1959. John completed the four year tool and model maker apprenticeship through Sperry Rand Univac Corporation and upon completion, was recruited by IBM Corporation as a model maker in Fishkill, New York. John was later employed by Babbitt Bearing in Syracuse, New York in a similar capacity. He served as an altar boy during his youth and continued as a lifelong communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. John was an avid history buff of American History and an outdoor enthusiast with a love for fishing, boating and camping. He was admired by all who knew him as a kind and compassionate man.
John is survived by one son and daughter in law, John and Yen Wiegand, Jr. of Bethlehem, PA; three daughters and two sons in law, Mary Jo and Brian Finocchiaro of Delray Beach, FL, Kristina Wiegand and Drs. Patty and Steve Grinton, all of Cherryville, NC; two brothers, Ed "Dodge" Wiegand and Allen Wiegand both of Herkimer; one sister, Kathy Burton of Charlottesville, VA; twelve grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will be Saturday morning at 10:00 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:30 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 9 am to the time of services.
