John Joseph Montalto

Frankfort - Mr. John Joseph Montalto, 67, of 302 Second Ave. passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Ilion on March 30, 1945, the son of the late Jack and Nina DiPiazza Montalto, Sr. and he attended Frankfort schools. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged on September 8, 1967. John was employed with Chicago Pneumatic for 33 years and later for Remington Arms until his retirement in 2010. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, a member of the Ilion Moose Lodge #1010 and the St. Francis Di Paolo Society, Frankfort. John is survived by his beloved companion of 20 years, Dorothy Evans of Frankfort; two sons and one daughter in law, Matthew Montalto of Ilion and Petty Officer 1/C Michael and Georgeann Montalto of MS, serving with the US Navy; one brother, Jack Montalto, Jr. of Herkimer; one sister and brother in law, Nancy and John Delisle of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Carson Montalto and Matthew Robert Montalto, Jr.; two aunts, Roberta Sportello and Mary Sportello both of Frankfort; one nephew, John Mark and his wife, Lisa Delisle; one niece, Tracy Delisle and her companion, David Taylor; two great nieces, Emily and Gianna; his special cousin, Josephine La Forte and family and several cousins. His funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:00 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery later in the spring with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be Saturday from 4-8 and Sunday from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the St. Francis Society will meet Sunday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home for services.
