Jennie Mayton

Paines Hollow- Jennie Mayton, 92, passed away peacefully at Valley Health Services on Thursday, November 19, 2015. She was born to Eva Bundyk and Wasyl Nasypany in the town of Stark on February 18, 1923 and grew up on the family farm outside of East Herkimer. It was there she learned the importance of the family's Ukrainian heritage and cultivated within the extended family the joy of continuing to gather regularly. She worked at Remington Arms, Burroughs, Mohawk Data Sciences, Galcase Furniture Store, the USDA Soil Conservation Service, and the Herkimer County Cooperative Extension where she, for many years, shared a passion of canning and preserving by teaching classes from a mobile van across all of Herkimer County. Mrs. Mayton was active with Saint Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Herkimer, the Van Hornesville Fire Auxiliary, and the Paines Hollow 4-H Club. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards, and traveled throughout the United States as well as to many continents. She had the greenest thumb in the area and her house and gardens were always full of plants and flowers. She was pre-deceased by Martin, her husband of 63 years, in 2010. She is survived by her two daughters and sons in law, Linda and John Shutts of Freeville, NY and Cathy and her husband, Dan Collins of Jordanville; one son and daughter in law, Mark Mayton and his wife, Linda of Stanley, NY; eight grandchildren and their spouses, James Blanchard and his wife, Melissa, Michael Collins and his fiancé Alex Cmar, Leland Collins and his wife, Devon, Jennifer and her husband Matt Maxwell, Martin Collins, Anna Mayton, Benjamin Mayton and Nathan Mayton; two great-grandsons, Andrew Blanchard and Paul Collins; her sister Emily (Vaughn) McPherson; two brothers and three sisters in law, Joseph and Betty Nasypany, Ray and Shivaun Nasypany and Helen Nasypany and her beloved nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her sister and brother in law, Mary and Andy Malinchak; her brothers and sisters in law, Michael Nasypany, John and Pat Nasypany, George and Beatrice Nasypany, Peter Nasypany and Paul and Frances Nasypany; her in-laws, Sam and Elizabeth Mayton, Ann and William Stankler and Dorothy and Steve Mizerak. Her funeral will be held Monday morning, November 23, at 9:30 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 324 Moore Ave, Herkimer with Rev. Fr. Ivan Semko, officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls. Calling hours will be Sunday evening from 4-8 PM in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Her family will gather for Parastas at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Jean be considered to St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 324 Moore Ave. Herkimer, NY 13350. The family would like to thank Valley Health Services staff and the wonderful network of neighbors and friends on Aney Hill for their care and kindness shown to Mrs. Mayton and her family.
