Ilion – Mrs. Janet A. Maphia, 78, of Ilion passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in The Grand with her family by her side.

She was born in Herkimer on June 28, 1940, the daughter of the late Howard and Regina Bernier Daley. She attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1958. She was married to Michael J. Maphia on July 26, 1958 in St. Francis De Sales Church, Herkimer. Michael passed away on March 31, 1996. Janet was the Co-Owner and Operator of Valley Automotive, E. Albany St., Herkimer with her husband, Mike and son Michael for many years.  Janet was a communicant of St. Francis DeSales Church and Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of Jaycees, Ilion.

Janet is survived by one son and daughter in law, Michael and Ivy Maphia of Herkimer ; her cherished grandchildren, Sean Michael Maphia, Sarah Ann Maphia and Todd Joseph Maphia; one brother and sister in law, Renny and Sunie Daley of Tucson, AZ; two sisters and one brother in law, June and Charles Scaparo of Herkimer and Charlene Taffi of Seattle, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her funeral will be held Monday morning, September 3, 2018 at 10:00 in St. Francis De Sales Church, N. Bellinger St Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the V Rev Mark Cunningham. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer. Janet’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of The Grand, for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing.
