James J. Thurston

Frankfort - Mr. James J. Thurston, 58, of 315 S. Litchfield St., passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in University Hospital. Jim was born in Ilion on March 4, 1953, the son of Joseph and Angie Antonucci Thurston. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Notre Dame High School with the class of 1971. He later attended Utica College, graduating in 1994 with his Bachelor's Degree in History. Jim was at one time employed by Centrex Labs and later in Quality Control for Indium Corporation, Utica. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. Jim has been a bass guitar player for many years and played with the Honeybush Brothers. He was a skilled Scuba diver and became a Master Diver and Instructor with the National Aquatic Association, Syracuse and taught students at Syracuse University and MVCC for many years. Through his instruction, his son Todd received his certificate to dive being one of the youngest students to ever receive it. Jim is survived by one son, Todd Thurston of Canastota; his mother, Angie Thurston of Frankfort; one sister, Angela Thurston, also of Frankfort; his granddaughter, Layla; his companion, Christine Crozier of Ilion; his aunt and uncles, Rose and Ernie Marcantonio of Utica and Douglas Crescent of New Hartford as well as several cousins and friends. His funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 PM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 2:00 PM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the V.Rev. Anthony Barratt and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Calling hours will be Thursday from 11:30 - 1:30 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
