Mrs. Irene Godlewski Polczynski Herkimer - Mrs. Irene Godlewski Polczynski, 92, passed away peacefully Friday, January 8, 2016 in St. Luke's Home with her family by her side. She was born in Newville on May 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Karol and Katherine Paliwoda Godlewski. She attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1941.Irene was married to Donald Polczynski Sr. on October 10, 1959 in St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer. Donald passed away on February 27, 2005. Together Don and Irene shared their life together operating their family farm in Poland. As a wife and mother, Irene lived a life filled with dedication to duty and God. After her beloved husband, Don passed, Irene was cared for and lived with her devoted sister, Jane Godlewski, Irene's children would like to offer many thanks and praise for the incredible amount of loving care she provided their mother. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the United Polka League and the Lunch Bunch. Irene is survived by one daughter, Diane Dekkers and her fiancée, Jan Moolenschot of Marcy; one son and daughter in law, Donald and Roe Polczynski Jr of Clinton; one sister, Jane Godlewski of Herkimer; her in laws, Lawrence and Barbara Polczynski, Victoria Zutter, Valeria Polczynski and Nellie Polczynski; her very special niece, Faye Richer who was her special companion while she helped with her care; her Godchildren, Dorothy Gorczynski and Mark Godlewski and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters in law, John Godlewski, Chester and Betty Godlewski, Joseph and Marguerite Godlewski, Stanley Godlewski and Benjamin and Elizabeth Godlewski; one sister and brother in law, Mary and Stephen Gorczynski; her in laws, Helen Kostyn, MaryAnn and Joseph Baron, Raymond Polczynski, Carl Polczynski, Thaddeus Polczynski, Edward Polczynski, August Polczynski and Walter Zutter. Her funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:00 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Quy Vo. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7 PM at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Contributions in Irene's memory may be made to Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer, NY 13350 or the Alzheimer's Association Mohawk Valley Chapter, 258 Genesee Street, Suite 509, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
