Herkimer - Mrs. Gloria A. Maiola, 96, of Herkimer passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 in Valley Health Service with her family by her side.

She was born in Herkimer on February 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Angela Scalise Ceneviva. She attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1942. She was married to Nicholas J. Maiola on October 26, 1946 in St. Anthony's Church by the Rev. Gustav Purficato. Gloria was an Account Clerk Typist for Herkimer Co. Public Health until her retirement in May of 1989 after 20 years of dedicated service. Following her retirement she was the receptionist and bookkeeper for St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer for 25 years. She was a communicant of Sts Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the 3 rd Order of St. Francis and the ILGWU. Gloria served as a First Communion Teacher for 33 years during which time she had taught her son, Joe and her last class she taught her granddaughter, Michelle.

Gloria is survived by one son and daughter in law, Joseph and Sandra Maiola of Herkimer; two granddaughters, Nicole Maiola and Michelle and her husband, Andrew Cristman; three great grandchildren, Katelyn Cristman, Marc Cristman and Anthony Cristman; one sister, Minnie Viscomi of St. Charles, MO; her nephews and nieces, Gregory and his wife, Diane Viscomi and Marilyn and Peter Newkirk and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother and sister in law, Frank and Mary Ceneviva; her brother in law, Ernie Viscomi; one nephew and his wife, Thomas and Gail Ceneviva

Her funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in Sts Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In keeping with current guidelines, a face covering will be required and social distancing will be practiced. Her funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home Herkimer, NY.

Gloria’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Valley Health Service especial 1E, for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing.
