Ilion-Frankfort-Mr. George J. Loiacono, 82, of 138 Rockwell Dr passed away Monday, January 28, 2008 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home with his family by his side.
He was born in West Winfield on April 18, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Cleseri Loiacono and he attended schools there. He was married to Geraldine E. Murray on September 2, 1967 in Frankfort United Methodist Church. Geraldine passed away on October 24, 1996. He was later married to Verna Peuser on June 24, 2006 in the Frankfort United Methodist Church. George was the owner and operator of the Mohican Restaurant, Mohawk for many years and was later employed as a driver for Central New York Coach Lines. He was later employed as a driver for Mohawk Central School, Mohawk for over 30 years. Being a skilled mason, George loved to do masonry work for his family and friends throughout the area. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member International Order of Odd Fellows, Mohawk and served as a Past District Deputy.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Verna; three daughters and two sons in law, Geraldine Loiacono of Frankfort, Roberta & Thomas Hallock of Richfield Springs and Terry & Dave Skramko of Ilion; five sons and two daughters in law, Mark & Jeanne Alford of Cicero, Aaron & Rebecca Alford, Chad Loiacono, Theodore Loiacono and George Alan Loiacono all of Ilion; one brother & sister in law, Henry & Sophie Loiacono of West Winfield; two stepsons, John Christian & his wife, Barbara Peuser of Mohawk and MSgt Charles Peuser of Canajoharie; one step daughter, Linda Peuser of VA; his grandchildren, Carly, Emily, Tonya, David and Missy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Dominick Loiacono, Peter Loiacono, Frank Loiacono and Andrea Loiacono and three sisters, Agnes Barretta, Josephine Cushman and Mary Barretta
His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 am from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John Yanas, pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
