Mr. George Shank Green Sr. Frankfort-Mr. George Shank Green, Sr., 85, of 309 Fourth Ave passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his daughter Marilyn by his side. He was born in Frankfort on April 21, 1921, the son of the late Rosario and Margaret Spine Green and he attended Frankfort schools. He served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on October 27, 1945. He was the recipient of two Bronze Service Stars and the Meritorius Unit Award. He was married to Mary Frances "Chick" Barberio on June 27, 1947 in St. Mary´s Church, Frankfort. Chick passed away on June 20, 2001. Mr. Green worked as Electrician for Union Fork And Hoe Co., Frankfort until his retirement in 1982. He was a Communicant of Our Lady Queen Of Apostles Church and a member of the American Legion Post #845 and served as Past Commander and is the present Treasurer, the St. Francis Di Paolo Society and the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department. Shank was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed the Knicks and Duke Basketball. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, carpentry and bowling. George is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Green of Frankfort; one brother & sister in law, Dominick & Mary Green of Frankfort; his in laws, Harriett Green, Julia & Steve Eskoff, Mary Barberio and Joseph Papa; his special friends, Hank De Fazio and Michael Lombardi and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, George F. M. Green Jr on January 26, 2004, one sister, Mary Papa, five brothers, Joseph Green, Philip Green, James Green, Russell Green and Frank Green, one nephew, Joseph Barberio, three nieces, Mary Jean Nikolassy, Mary Ann Wheeler and Cheryl Liscio. His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:00 am from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 9:30 am in Our Lady Queen Of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the St. Francis Society will meet Sunday evening at 7:15, members of the American Legion at 7:30 and the Frankfort Fire Department at 8:00 at the funeral home for services. Shank´s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Sperling, Dr. Kodsay, Dr. Brambly and Dr. Kachare, the Nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth´s Medical Canter and Valley Health Services 1 West for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing. Contributions in Shank's memory may be made to Frankfort Fire Dept. Memorial Park Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
