Herkimer - Mr. Fred J. Ferrucci, 91, of 315 N. Prospect St. passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
He was born in Herkimer on September 6, 1918, the son of the late Michelangelo and Lucia Ciampatiello Ferrucci and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army during World War II in the European theater and was Honorably Discharged on November 6, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He was married to Josephine Piscione on June 28, 1947 in St. Anthony's Church. Mr. Ferrucci was owner and operator for Ferrucci Brother's Roofing and later Herkimer Roofing, Herkimer for many years until his retirement in 1980. He was a former communicant of St Joseph Church and member V.F.W Post #4915, Herkimer. Fred was a wonderful family man who especially enjoyed the family dinners when he was surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine Ferrucci, two daughters & son in law, Mary Lu Ferrucci and Rose & Vinny Scalise all of Ilion; one son, Michael Ferrucci & his companion, Sue Ann Dellerba of Utica, his grandchildren, Angela & her husband, Michael Bourke of VA and Gino Scalise of Ilion; two great grandchildren, Amelia and Conor; one sister in law, Sadie Tocco of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant daughter in 1948, four brothers, Orlando Babe Ferrucci, Frank Ferrucci, John Ferrucci and Marco Ferrucci and one sister, Ida Plano.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 AM in Church of the Annunciation, Ilion where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the V. Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home.
Fred's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Kunkel Ambulance especially Larry & Mike, the nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center's ICU and 3C and his aides, Betty and Audrey for their wonderful acts of kindness during his illness and passing.
