Herkimer - Mrs. Frances Jalowiec, 83, of 417 N. Prospect St. passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 in the Sitrin Health Care Center with her family by her side.
She was born in New York Mills on June 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Frank and Anielka Osika Jungiewicz. She attended St. Mary's Acedemy in New York Mills and graduated with the class of 1949. She went on to attend college in Buffalo, learning the art of fashion where she became a seamstress.
She was married to Frank Jalowiec on May 29, 1955 in St. Mary's Church, New York Mills. Frank passed away on July 25, 2008. Following her college education, Frances and her sister, Genny were the owners and operators of Gene's Bridal Shop in New York Mills and later was the owner and operator of Francia's Bridal Shop in Herkimer until her retirement in 2006. Francia's Bridal Shop was the oldest and longest family owned bridal store in all of New York State. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the NYS Bridal Association.
Frances is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Dr. David Jalowiec and his wife, Danielle of Herkimer and Daniel Jalowiec and his wife, Janice of Rochester; two daughters and sons in law, Donna and her husband, David Findlay of Athol, MA and Kathy Jalowiec-Stanton and her husband, Scott of Oneonta; eleven grandchildren, David Jonathan Findlay, Michael Findlay, Christopher Jalowiec, Anastasia Jalowiec, Jennifer Stanton, Andrew Stanton, Olivia Jalowiec, Josiah Jalowiec, Levi Jalowiec, Micah Jalowiec and Savannah Jalowiec and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five sisters, Stella Lukasziewicz, Jennie Koziol, Josephine Lilli, Julie Nigrelli and Sophie Fugal.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer, and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus & St. Casimir Cemetery in New York Mills. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
