Utica - Mr. Ernest Edward Marcantonio, 87, of 720 Sherman Dr. passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on January 13, 1925, the son of the late Rocco and Elvira Colacicco Marcantonio. He attended Utica schools and graduated from Proctor High School. Ernie served with the US Navy during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on January 7, 1944. He was married to Rose Thurston on November 29, 1947 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. He later attended and graduated from MVCC with a degree in Retail Management. Ernie was employed as a Manager for the Accounting Department of General Electric, Utica for many years until his retirement in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church, Utica.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Marcantonio; one sister, Matilda DeGironimo of New Hartford; one brother, Silvio Steve Marcantonio of Utica; his brother in law, Douglas Crescent of New Hartford; one sister in law, Mary Marcantonio of Utica; his nephews and niece, Brian Marcantonio and his companion Karen Ganci, Angela Thurston, Mark Crescent, Jim and his wife, Connie Thurston and Eleanor Thurston and several cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Livio Lee Marcantonio and one sister, Olivia Marcantonio.
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Lafache. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. There will be no public calling hours. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., Frankfort.
