Edward J. Scalise

Herkimer - Mr. Edward J. Scalise, 85, of 123 Sherwood Acres Dr. passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Valley Health Services with his beloved wife by his side. He was born in Herkimer on April 29, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Theresa Macrina Scalise and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army during World War II with the 78th Division in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on April 25, 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. He was married to Eleanor Fragale on July 31, 1961 in Annunciation Church, Ilion. Mr. Scalise was employed as mechanical Parts Buyer for Univac Ilion & Utica Plants and retired from the Bristol, TN plant in 1981 after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the Tony R. George Post #6, Herkimer, St. Anthony's Crusaders and a Life Member of Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Scalise; one sister, Aurora Daver Frank of Herkimer; two sisters in law, Emma Scalise and Jeanette Smithson both of Herkimer and several dear nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Orient Scalise, Michael Scalise, Joseph Scalise, Orleans Cappy Scalise and four sisters, Susan Henry, Stella Paoni, Theresa Van Vechten and Helen Tripolone. His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S Main St, Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer.
