Frankfort – Mr. Edward J Freedman, 79, of Frankfort passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 in The Grande with his family by his side.

He was born in Ilion on May 12, 1942, the son of the late Edward C. and Pauline B.Vainosky Freedman. Ed attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort Schuyler High School with the class of 1960. He then later attended Cortland State University graduating in 1962 and later receiving his Master’s Degree from Oneonta State Teachers College. He was married to Karen Parkhurst on April 20, 1985 in Ilion. Ed was a Math and Social Studies Teacher for Proctor High School for many years until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Our Lady of Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Ilion Fish and Game Club, Ilion Knights of Columbus and Ilion Moose Club. He was an expert Skeet Shooter and shot in several tournaments throughout the country receiving many awards and even shot at the World Shoot in Texas every year.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, one daughter and son in law, Zondra and Scott Coffin of Frankfort; his grandsons, Jacob and his wife, Jill Coffin and Joshua Shuemaker all of Ilion, Eric and his wife, Jennifer Coffin of Cassville, Chad Coffin of Herkimer and Joseph and his wife, Erika Coffin of Ilion; his in laws, Mary Margaret Freedman of N.C. and Ralph and Hope Blencow of Durhamville; two nephews, John and his wife, Allison Freedman of Saratoga and Eric and his wife, Jamie Freedman of N.C. and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, John Freedman; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anita and Francis Parkhurst; in-law's, Ronald and Ginny Parkhurst, Richard and Joan Raymond and Neil and Eleanor Parkhurst.

His funeral will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 9:45 from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.  203 Second Avenue, Frankfort and at 10:30 in Our Lady of Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Avenue, Frankfort.
