Dennis James Sanita
Herkimer-Dennis James Sanita passed away in the Abraham House in Utica with his family by his side.
He was born April 4th, 1943 in Herkimer, NY, the son of the late Mark and Antoinette (Gigliotti) Sanita. He attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1961. He later attended and graduated from MVCC. Dennis was married to Linda Sanguine on May 16,1964 in St. Anthony’s Church. In May they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Dennis served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged on November 12,1968 and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal and Bronze Star with Valor. Together they raised two wonderful sons, Christopher (Colleen) Sanita of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Todd Sanita of Herkimer, NY. Dennis was an avid sports fan of the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Dennis retired from Remington Arms, Ilion, NY leaving many good friends and lasting memories. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events that his grandchildren participated in throughout their youth. His family was his top priority and he deeply cared for everyone.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Linda, children, and grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Carol (Sanita) Ocuto of Mohawk, NY, two brothers-in-law Fred and Carol Sanguine of Frankfort and Gregg Sanguine of Herkimer, NY; his grandsons Michael, Noah, and Devin, and one granddaughter, Liza, who were the pride and joy of his life as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Fred and Mary Sanguine; brother-in-law Jim Ocuto; brother and sister-in-law Francis and Louise Sanita and a special cousin, Yvonne Gigliotti.
His funeral will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 am in the Church of St. Anthony and Joseph, S. Main St., Herkimer, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Terance Healey. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to The Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY, 13501. Envelopes will be available at the church vestibule on Friday.
His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, Herkimer.
