Frankfort - Mr. Charles Joseph Amento, Sr., 84, of 234 First Ave. passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.
He was born in South Ozone Park, NY on May 10, 1926, the son of the late Dominick and Philomena Barra Amento and he attended Public School 124 in South Ozone Park. Charles served with the US Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on October 23, 1954 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was married to Doris Nicolette on November 10, 1951 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Mr. Amento was employed as an assembler for the Drop Forge and later for MDS, Herkimer for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Amento; one son and daughter in law, Charles and Gail Amento, Jr. of Albany; one daughter, Lynn Amento and Jayne Halpenny of Rochester; one granddaughter, Rachel Amento; two sisters and one brother in law, Evelyn Schwenzer and Rose and Graham Sandwell, all of Ocala, FL; his in laws, Joanne and Don Oyer of Frankfort and Sandy Nicolette of Ft. Myers, FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
His funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 2:00 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
