Salisbury Center - Mrs. Catherine Haberek, 97, of Brown Road passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 in St. Luke's Home.
She was born in Staromishina, Austria, on September 1, 1913, the daughter of the late Stefan and Melanie Pohodilo Sobolowski. Catherine's family immigrated to the United States when she was a young girl and settled in Boundbrook, NJ. She graduated from Holland Patent Central School with the class of 1929. Catherine was at one time married to Charles Haberek. Mrs. Haberek was employed as a Supervisor for Allegro Shoes, Little Falls and later for Daniel Green, Dolgeville. She was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls.
Catherine is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ryan of Rome and Joan Haberek of Salisbury Center; three sons and two daughters in law, Charles and Carol Haberek of Ilion, Robert and Patricia Haberek of Dolgeville and Matthew Haberek of Salisbury Center; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, John Haberek on November 22, 2009, five brothers, Michael Sobolowski, John Sobolowski, Paul Sobolowski, Steven Sobol and Walter Sobolowski.
Her funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:15 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 11:00 AM in Holy Family Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 9-10:15 am at the funeral home.
Catherine's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Home for the wonderful care shown to her during her stay and passing.
