East Winfield - Middleburgh - Mrs. Brigid M. Yourno, 94, of East Winfield and Middleburgh passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 in the Folts Home with her family by her side.
She was born in Syracuse on July 27, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Carey Moran and she attended Utica schools, graduating from St. Francis DeSales High School with the class of 1939. She was employed with the Old American Emblem Co. for several years making Military Uniforms. In 1942, Betty married Joseph Yourno of East Winfield and moved to the Yourno Homestead Farm where she and Joe ran the dairy and raised potatoes and peas and ran the Yourno Sawmilling Operation. Betty was a hard working woman who did everything from housework to working the farm and sawmill business. She was an expert handler of horses on the farm. Betty was also employed as a Bookkeeper for Holy Trinity Parish in Troy for many years until her retirement in 1976. In later years, she enjoyed car rides and meals at the local diners where she would joke with all the waitresses. In 2009 she moved to Middleburgh to be near family.
Betty is survived by her son and daughter in law, Joseph and Christine Yourno; granddaughters, Jennifer Cambareri of Baldwinsville and Tina Heyduk and her husband David of New Berlin, NY; her great-grandchildren, Isabella and Anthony Cambareri and Danny Heyduk. She leaves many nieces and nephews including Kevin Vatalaro who was very kind to Betty for many years. Betty was predeceased by her husband Joe, a daughter in law, Lee Yourno, her son in law Anthony Cambareri and her siblings Kate, Liz, Tom, Bill, Bud, Maurice and Luke and best friends Adam and Jenn Lahut.
Her family can never thank the Folts Home in Herkimer enough for all the care and compassion shown to Betty and her family during her stay there. These folks went above and beyond for our mom. Also, thanks to the staff at Cobleskill Regional Hospital and Bassett Health Center in Middleburgh where Betty was a "regular."
Betty's wish was to have her body donated for Medical Research. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer.
