Mr. Antonio Santoro
Herkimer - Mr. Antonio Santoro, 78, of S. Main St. passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Chiaravalle, Centrale', Province of Catanzaro, Italy on October 20, 1935, the son of the late Francesco and Antonia Cortese Santoro and he attended schools there. He was married to Maria Stagliano on February 28, 1958 in Convento Cappugino, Chiaravalle. The family came to the United States in 1967, settling in Herkimer. Tony was a well-known mason throughout the area for many years and later was an Assembler for Remington Arms in Ilion until his retirement in 1987. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church.
Antonio is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Santoro; one son and daughter in law, Frank and Patricia Santoro of West Dover, VT; one daughter, Silvanna Santoro-Heidler of Eugene, OR; one grandson, Antonio Bennett Santoro; four brothers and sisters in law, Nicola and Antoinette Santoro, Peppino and Maria Santoro; Saverio and Lena Santoro and Domenico and Chiarra Santoro; his in laws, Mario and Sondra Stagliano, Julia and Guiseppe Manno, all of Herkimer, Catherine and Vincent Marchese of Little Falls; his niece that he considered a daughter, Rita Marchese and several beloved niece, nephews and cousins.. He was predeceased by one son, Giuseppe Santoro; one daughter, Maria Santoro; one brother, Vincenzo Santoro, and two sisters, Maria Santoro and Lucia Santoro.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:30 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 11:00 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terrance Healy and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony's memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
