Herkimer - Mr. Anthony J. Tubia, 87, of 331 S. Bellinger St passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 in Bassett Health Care with his family by his side. He was born in Frankfort on November 7, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Carmella Andre Tubia and he attended Frankfort schools. Tony served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on May 14, 1946. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained on March 31, 1945. He was married to Theresa Tocci on June 28, 1947 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Theresa passed away on March 29, 1974. He was later married to Shirley Zaik on October 28, 1977 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Tony was at one time employed as a Machinist for Univac Ilion & Utica Plants and later was a Self Employed Home Remodeler until his retirement in 1978. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the St. Anthony's Crusaders, Tony R. George Post #6,V.F.W Post #4915, a third degree Knights Of Columbus Council #12165, Tampa, Fl. and the Military Order Of The Purple Heart. Tony is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Tubia; three sons and daughters in law, Anthony and Nancy Tubia of E. Herkimer, Rocco and Petra Tubia of DE and Timothy and Melissa Tubia of Herkimer; one daughter, Linda Abeling of Mohawk; one step son, Ted and his wife, Christine Zaik of TX; one step daughter, Linda Zaik of FL; his daughter in law, Sandra Tubia of Herkimer; eight grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Kim Tubia, Anthony and his wife, Cheri Tubia, Tricia and her husband, Keith Chabot, Stacey Greene, Jeremy and his wife, Karen Brown, Theresa Brown, Donald and his wife, Ariann Tubia and Teressa Tubia; three sisters and one brother in law, Carrie Spytko of Richfield Springs, Marian and Joseph Rosemyer and Ann Garcia all of Frankfort; his sister in law, Mildred Tubia of Frankfort; his very special friends, Tom and Annette Branscum, Tamp, Fl.; numerous great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Donald Tubia on September 21, 1997; his granddaughter, Leslie Ann Brown on May 6, 1980; four sisters, Mary Kinney, Rose Hall, infant Mary Tubia and Josephine Trippen and six brothers, Rocco Tubia, infant Anthony Tubia, James Tubia, Carmelo Tubia, Paul Tubia and John Tubia Sr, His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be Monday, January 7 from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members VFW, Tony R George and Military Order of the Purple Heart will meet Monday at 7 pm at the funeral home for services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
