Angelo J. Vella

Mr. Angelo J. Vella Herkimer - Mr. Angelo J. Vella, 79, of 333 Dewey Ave entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 23, 2006 in St. Luke´s Memorial Hospital and was reunited with his loving wife, Helen and family in heaven. He was born in Brooklyn on April 23, 1926 the son of the late Christopher and Ida Fornieri Vella and he attended schools there. Angelo served during World War II in the Army as a Paratrooper in the Pacific Theater in the Philipinnes and was Honorably Discharged on February 28, 1946. He was married to Helen M. Surace on April 3, 1948 in St. Anthony´s Church, Herkimer. Mrs. Vella passed away on August 7, 1999. Mr. Vella was a Supervisor for Univac in both the Ilion & Utica Plants for many years and later was employed by MDS and lastly by Par Technology until his retirement in 1992. He was a Communicant of Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church and a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439, V.F.W Post #4915, Herkimer and the Tony R. George Post #6, Herkimer. Angelo is survived by one daughter, Frances Vella of Mohawk; one son & daughter in law, John & Penny Vella of Carlsbad, CA; one granddaughter, Sarah Reale of Herkimer and two grandsons, Nick Vella and Christopher Vella both of Carlsbad, CA; one brother & sister in law, Anthony & Angela Vella of Ilion and several inlaws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Vella. His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 11:00 am in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Full Military Honors later this spring. Calling Hours will be Monday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the Herkimer Elks will meet Monday evening at 6:30 and the VFW at 7:00 at the funeral home for services.
